After studying physics and astrophysics at the universities of Frankfurt, Göttingen and Freiburg, Dr. Dirk Soltau worked as an astrophysicist for the renowned Leibniz-Institut für Sonnenphysik in Freiburg. There he was responsible for the largest solar telescope in Europe and led a working group for "Adaptive Optics". On the Sun, he is particularly interested in the smallest structures that can only be seen with extremely powerful telescopes.

Today, Dirk Soltau works as a consultant for telescope development. His clients are institutes and companies in Germany and abroad. When you have spent a lot of time in remote observatories, and when you have looked through telescopes into the far reaches of the universe for a long time, your perspective can change. That's why Dirk Soltau looks at the world with a special perspective, and it shows in his lectures.

Dirk Soltau is not only a scientist, but also a storyteller, an explainer and an entertainer. For years, he has been a popular keynote speaker on land and a lecturer on the seven seas. His leitmotif here is the cautionary words of Oscar Wilde: "Boredom is a sin for which there is no absolution." Dirk Soltau is married, has three grown-up children, and when it's all done, he likes to cruise through the Black Forest on his motorcycle.
